The star of the story! (His real name is Michael—but shhh, that’s top secret.) My 8-Year-Old Self is a quiet, creative kid with a big imagination. He spends his time drawing comic books, dreaming up wild adventures, and hanging out with the characters he brings to life. He’s a little shy, a lot nerdy—and absolutely loves pizza.
Straight from the imagination of My 8-Year-Old Self, Space Dog is a space helmet-wearing hero inspired by a love of Star Wars and Snoopy. With floppy ears and a fearless attitude, he leads the crew of the Secret Moon Base in their quest to defend the galaxy (and maybe grab a snack along the way).
Bunny is My 8-Year-Old Self’s best friend and most trusted sidekick. A soft, well-loved stuffed animal, Bunny is always there for comfort, courage, and quiet company. He doesn’t go to school (house rules), but he’s always waiting at home—ready for the next big adventure.
In the comics and fantasies of My 8-Year-Old Self, Bunny comes to life with arms, legs, in a simple robot suit. He’s more careful than courageous, but always by his friend’s side when it counts. The suit isn’t exactly high-tech, but it just might have a few surprises hidden inside.
Regal, mysterious, and possibly dangerous, the Queen rules from her Interstellar BoneShip with an army of robotic henchdogs. Some say she works for the Megalomaniac—but no one knows for sure.
No one knows exactly who—or what—the Megalomaniac is. This shadowy mastermind seems to be behind everything that goes wrong in My 8-Year-Old Self’s world. He’s never seen, but there are strong suspicions that the school bullies are working for him. Wherever trouble lurks, the Megalomaniac isn’t far behind.
Making his debut in My 8-Year-Old Self and the Sophomore Slump, Mike Mouse is the bold, outgoing alter ego of My 8-Year-Old Self. Quick-witted and always ready with a clever comment, he’s best friends with the robot TWiRP. Whether offering advice or comic relief, Mike Mouse is the extrovert to Michael’s introvert.
(And just to be clear—Michael’s name is still top secret.)
Debuting in My 8-Year-Old Self and the Sophomore Slump, TWiRP is a floating, all-purpose robot with extendable arms and a knack for showing up exactly when needed. He provides comic relief, unexpected solutions, and the occasional mess. He may be a walking plot device—but don’t tell him that.
(And no, My 8-Year-Old Self still hasn’t figured out what TWiRP stands for. Yet.)
Mike Ivy is the author and illustrator behind the world of My 8-Year-Old Self. A lifelong artist, teacher, and fan of all things imaginative, he brings his childhood drawings and memories to life through the character he knows best.
(Actually… he is My 8-Year-Old Self. But let’s just keep that between us.)
