Follow the adventures of My 8-Year-Old Self as he navigates the stress of everyday life and school while living in his own fantasy world as he pursues his ambitions to draw the most epic comic book ever created.
Loosely based on author and illustrator Mike Ivy's childhood experiences and the cartoons he created at the time, My 8-Year-Old Self began as a series of drawings posted on social media. Ivy's initial idea was to create a character who felt awkward and out of place, which is why he always wears a spacesuit. (Plus, he thinks it makes him look cool!) Presented here are the first 70 beautifully cross-hatched drawings, woven into a story that follows My 8-Year-Old Self's fantasies, mishaps, and triumphs over a year in his life.
A humorous, nostalgic, illustrated romp for geeks, nerds, and introverts aged 8 to 108.
"Reconnect with your inner child through this whimsical and charming book. The author/artist clearly remembers what it's like to be a child, and he brings you along on his sweet, sentimental journey of the imagination. I loved it." --D. K. Boyd
"Beautifully illustrated, this book will immediately take you back to your childhood. I miss my spacesuit." -- Loyd Blankenship
"This was a cute and entertaining book that draws the reader into the life and remarkable imagination of an 8 year old's daily life. The author is also the illustrator, and the drawings help tell the story in a way everyone has related to once in their lives. Original and amazing illustrations, this book is an enjoyable read for everyone. I especially recommend for children who are more introverted, into science fiction, and exploring the galaxy." --Carr Simpson
